We did it! We survived the first month of the new year. Can I get a “heck yeah”?! My goodness, time really does fly!! You may have noticed, if you’ve been following my 2021 Reading Challenge, that I didn’t post an update for week 4. That’s because… I didn’t finish any books during the last week of January. But it got me thinking, maybe every 4th week I’ll do a monthly recap post instead!
Books Read In January
To start off with, here’s a list of all the books I finished reading in January:
- Daddy Long Legs, Jean Webster
- My Man Jeeves, P.G. Wodehouse
- The Invisible Man, H.G. Wells
- The Canterville Ghost, Oscar Wilde
- The Divine Comedy, Dante Alighieri
- Johnathan Livingston Seagull, Richard Bach
- The Frogs, Aristophanes
Along with those books, I started reading 2 books during that last week in January. The first one was The Dyer’s Daughter: Selected Stories of Xiao Hong by Xiao Hong, and the other is Solaris by Stanisław Lem. I didn’t finish reading Xiao Hong’s stories until February 1st, and let me tell you. Oh. Em. Gee. What an incredible author and storyteller. That book had me in tears through multiple stories! I’ll write a separate post on Xiao Hong later this week and tell you more about her and her stories. And hopefully I’ll finish Solaris this week, too!
Speaking of reading, it seems worth mentioning that Solaris is displaying perfectly fine on my Kindle Paperwhite. The mystery of the changing words is, hopefully, coming to a close!
January for Me Personally
I’ve been trying to replace my bad habits with good ones. Before this year, I’d never gone a month without marijuana where I didn’t drink. I’d never had a month without drinking where I didn’t smoke, either. If it wasn’t one, it was the other (or even both). I don’t remember the last time I smoked, but the last time I drank was January 3rd 2021. Yay!
Sure, I never finished that painting I started. But I didn’t go to the bar, either, and I wanted to do that even more than I wanted to paint! Instead of drinking and smoking, I’ve been reading and writing.😊 Oh yeah, and I learned how to do this weird thing with my eye…
Things have been good so far, to say the least! I’ve been reaching out to old friends, going to new cafes, and I even got assigned to a permanent location at work.
But why stop there? Why just stop at “so far so good”? I want to make things even better! So I’m going to be tacking on an addition to my weekly book challenge updates. Running!
It’s strange, I like running, I like how it makes me feel, and I like the runner’s high, but for some reason or another it’s difficult to actually get up and go. I think it has to do with being alone when I go out to run, or maybe it’s just because I look a little goofy. But shoot everyone looks a little goofy when they run, so that’s a non-issue, I suppose!
At any rate, things are getting better all the time. I hope things are getting better for you, too!
Until next time (and with lots of love),
