Reblogging and Content Curation

Hey there, lovelies! I hope you’ve all been well lately ❤ I’m sure you’ve noticed that I’ve been reblogging a lot of content lately and I’d like to take a minute to explain why. But first, what even is reblogging?

Reblogging is Sharing

WordPress has this super handy reblog button at the bottom of posts that makes reblogging content a breeze. It posts content from other sources on your website and gives you the option to add your own comments and additions to the beginning of the post. Not all blogs have the reblog button, and some choose not to show it on their site.

There’s a handful of reasons why I like reblogging, so I’m just gonna give a couple:

  • there’s loads of good content already out there
  • it gives other blogs exposure
  • it’s fun
  • it encourages me to read

Let’s take a look at each of these reasons a little bit more!

Good Content

Seriously, it’s everywhere if you know how to look for it! And there’s always gonna be someone who can say it better than I can. There’s always gonna be someone with more knowledge, more expertise, more something, and I’m of the mindset that nobody can do everything on their own. When there’s something you can’t do well, you either get better or you have someone else do it, it’s just good business practice.

Sharing Exposure

I don’t want to mooch off of other people’s hard work. Every time I reblog something I first ask for permission to do so from the author. Some people don’t want their content on other people’s sites and its good to give them a choice in the matter. Plus, some posts contain copyright material, so getting permission is also legally required in some cases. The posts I reblog are and will continue to be on the same topics as the rest of the site, which means that there’s a really good chance that my audience will also like the blogs that I share. Hopefully, this will help the blogs that I share to get more traffic. I also try to link back to the sites in the commentary I post on the reblogs so the other sites get some pingbacks along with any extra exposure from Freshly Stale.

The thought of a whole website filled with stuff only written by me is, well, boring. A change of pace every once in a while is nice. And finding new awesome blogs to read is pretty nice, too! Sometimes I’m too tired to do a bunch of research and then summarize it into an easy-to-read blog post, sometimes I don’t have time, and sometimes I’d just rather direct you to someone else. Like I said, there’s so much good content out there and it’s so fun to explore it all!

I love reading, but gosh darn it, I just don’t do it as much as I think I should. Which is why I’m planning on reblogging more! Like, 2 or 3 times a week to start with, and we’ll see how things go from there. I’m working on a schedule for posting, so soon enough you can expect regular posts at consistent times, I promise! And I’ll never, ever reblog something if I haven’t read it all the way through. So in a way, this blog is like a curated online library.

To Help

At the end of the day, this blog is all about helping myself learn and sharing what I learn with others. It’s easy to access for everyone and the content is all hand-picked based on how informational and positive it is. Managing the site, curating content and creating content are all great ways to study and learn, and that’s what this is all about, too. Sharing is caring!

Last Thoughts and Promises

Reblogging is tricky. When done wrong it can be stealing and copyright infringement, and it can just look lazy to boot. I promise I will always get permission to reblog posts onto my site. I will always link back to the original site in the commentary, and I will always provide some commentary letting you know why I decided to reblog a post.

This is my journey, and reblogs are like stops along the way!
